There are now 17,000 students across two campuses at The University of Sunderland. In 2006, the Times Higher Education Supplement adjudged it as giving the best student experience in the UK. It has also been named the Guardian’s top new university, backed up by government statistics on the range, quality and quantity of its research.
There is a diverse business community in Sunderland and a skilled workforce for IT businesses and car manufacturing (Nissan), but the city is also attracting investment from the wider UK and abroad following a large regeneration project in recent years.
